Spritz and Giggles: Standup Comedy at Ad Astra

April 14, 2023 @ 8:00 pm - 11:00 pm UTC-6

Ad Astra’s inaugural standup comedy night!
Come have some laughs, several amazing drinks, and relax in this intimate setting.

Ad Astra is having it’s first standup comedy event and they have asked some of their favorite comics in for this first event.

Richard Bailey is your host for the evening. Richard has traveled throughout the Midwest performing comedy and is a fast favorite any were he hits the stage. Richard’s combination of candor, silliness, and undeniable likability always leaves his audiences wanting more.

Rebecca Jaffe is featuring for you. Rebecca is hot off of her sold out show with Hannah Magy called “Rolling Into a Ball and Crying” (and yes, it is hilarious). She is a singer, a songwriter, a sketch-writer, a standup comedian, and an incredibly hilarious human. From judgmental air filters to frank conversations of ADHD to using googly eyes to make certain adult instruments less intimidating, she makes it all relatable while providing a never-ending barrage of jokes.

Larry Smith will be headlining that evening. Larry’s style of standup comedy has been described as “sage wisdom from a failed rodeo clown” and “a calm walk through a forest of joy,” with optimistic candor, a gruff but personable demeanor, and some punk sensibilities. He ties together silly observations, self-deprecation, unapologetic warmth, and relatable unpretentious storytelling, and gives a sincere take on fatherhood, marriage, himself, and the world around him. Larry is the creator and host of the podcast “Convince Me with Larry Smith” on NPRIllinois (and The Front Row Network) and the co-creator and co-host of another podcast “Zig & Larry Ignore a Topic.” He has also been featured in SO Magazine and The Huffington Post.

Larry has headlined and featured in comedy clubs such as Mason City Limits, The Lucky Cat, and The Grove in Lowell, AR, has been on The Tuesday Ten at Zanies in Rosemont, IL, multiple times, and featured at Tomfoolery on Tremont at the Renwick Mansion in Davenport, IA. He’s also proudly headlined independent venues such as the legendary Zoo Bar in Lincoln, NE, and Joe’s Underground in Augusta, GA, along with breweries, bars, American Legion Halls, Moose Lodges, VFWs, living rooms, basements, and on the back of flatbed trailers all over the United States. He has had the pleasure of sharing the stage with talented comedians such as Pat Godwin, Shane Torres, Nate Craig, Stewart Huff, Reena Calm, and Dusty Slay, to name a few.
